too theocratic for me to get interested
not enough science and philosophy going on because "god did it so"
quite stable though
What's interesting about the byzantine empire apart from the horse races?
>>2349979
They drove artistic convention for a long time
>>2349968
They had GOAT borders.

Do you think any Emperors intentionally gained or lost land to make them look so good?
>>2350286
I wouldn't put past them.
>>2349979
They preserved Greek and Roman literature. Without the Byzantine's educational system and the Fall of Constantinople bringing tons of scholars west to Italy, the Renaissance may not have happened and we would know much less about Classical culture.

Why os the History of Byzantium podcast so good?
I think it's the guy voice.

>Martyropolis
Man that sounds like it's straight from some Byzaboo fanfiction, what a horrible name.
I find the byzantine period fascinating
It was basically Rome in the middle ages
Theres a good HC doco about it in yt narrated by Peter Weller from Robocop fame, hes very learned in renaissance history, has a degree in History and even taught in university
>>2350184
Why wasn't it successful when they had so much land to work with?
>>2350184
Actually it looks like a massive pain in the butt to defend in a region where youre bound to get attacked from all sides
Guess thats why they loved walls so much
