History department is pretty good, some awesome professors who are world renowned and at the top of their fields, but some crappy ones are waaaaay to into politicizing. I took a course on Modern Middle East and during the first week the professor, before going on a tirade about the injustices and oppression the European empires inflicted on the Middle East said, with a straight face, that the Ottoman Empire was ok, and treated non-muslims and non-turks perfectly fine because equality wasn't really a concept until the American and French revolutions. Another time in a course on European history before 1650 (different professor) at the end of one class he started talking about Black Athena, which was odd b/c he was an old white guy. Now I decided to confront him afterwards but b/c this was freshman year I made the mistake of trying to rush a frat, and b/c the class was at 9am I was still a little drunk. I wasn't sloppy, I made my points elegant, if not slurred, then went to the hall way bathroom to throw up. The next day I went to his office hours and we continued our discussion and he told me the only reason he taught it was b/c he was at Cornell and knew the author of the theory. Besides that though he was an awesome professor.

Not that anon, but I'll elabourate on what I'm pretty sure he means.

People who list Trump, Putin, or Duterte or similar as their favourite world leader, and who think Fascism is legitimately the best way to govern a country and who think the 'badass conquerors' kinds of nations in history (Mongols, Nazi Germany, etc) are just the coolest, tend to be pretty immature.

Same goes for the people who think Stalin or Mao were great leaders and the USSR was a utopia, or the people who legitimately think Anarcho-anything can work in the real world.

I think it's also generally because they're pretty surface tier elements of thought/study.

For example, Fascism is the first 'contrarian' ideology most people jump to, along with Communism, so people often assume that the people who support these ideologies are just doing so because they've not put much real study into political philosophy, but want to seem cool and counter-culture.

The thing with the Mongols similar, they're a subject everyone knows about, and they're one of those warrior cultures that actually achieved something. But because they're such common knowledge, but carry the note of success, they (like the Samurai, the Norse and others), are generally people's first stop in learning about military history.

And figures like Trump and Putin obviously attract enormous followings of young men looking for a strong figurehead to fight for without having to think too much for themselves (which is a common theme throughout history).

Put these together, and add that you're 16 years old, and as such perhaps not as experienced as others, and even sensible people, by collating the frequency of these stereotypes being proven correct, will assume you to be a teenage edgelord, and you'll need to prove them wrong or just be dismissed as such.
