How were the interactions between the numerous peoples that made up the ottoman empire?
Did people mix a lot or was everyone isolated from eachother?
>>
>Did people mix a lot
According to modern population genetics, not really. Serbians remain genetically closer to Russians than they do Arabs. Egyptians are still largely the same people genetically as they were in ancient times.

Near the core of the empire. In the rims of Anatolia, Constantinople and parts of Bulgaria.

Defiantly.
Turks have mixed with Greeks and Slavs who converted to Islam.
Now due to the way nations formed these Slavs and Greeks consider themselves Turks.

There were also many Turks in Thrace, parts of Bulgaria and in Macedonia.
Also, there were many people who were Greek in Anatolia and in the areas around Constantinople.
These areas were for the most part cleansed in Balkan wars and population exchanges.
There's lots of things to visualize here, and i'm not really going to post them all.
Look up ethnic maps of the Balkans, i have half a dozen of different ones with different takes on certain things.
Also, look up population exchange between Greece and Turkey for a chart of the Greek population of Constantinople over the years.

On the periphery not a lot of (genetic) mixing happened. Places like Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, as well as Kurd and Arab areas who didn't mix with the Turks and only populations in proximity mixed.

Now in a sense south-east Serbia and some areas of Bulgaria were ambiguous and more similar to each other than either Serbia or Bulgaria proper, but in the end they chose their national identities. Serbs tried to turn them all into Serbs, Bulgarians into Bulgarians and so on. Torlak dialect (pic related).

While Turks did mix with people who lived in Anatolia who were in general Greek converts and Slavic converts that moved there.
They didn't mix with people on the periphery.

In regards to a certain meme about ius primae noctis in Serbia.
I've generally seen it used by Turks and Bosnians while fighting with Serbs over the internet. Firstly, local officials were generally local converts, but they were called Turks as a slur. Secondly, the work quoted is from a Serb in 1993, it has no historical sources and refers to folk tales, and was probably just Serbian made up propaganda to justify raping muslims in Bosnia (cuz they raped us amirite?)
>>
So basically as you came nearer to istanbul things got more multicultural.
Thanks for the answers guys.
Also people here keep saying that bosnians are muslim serbs so how true is that?

Everyone was mutually segregated, except for trade

in the balkans, the rural population wouldn't travel too far from their home, the farthest they'd go are the major cities like istanbul or thessaloniki, mostly the same applies for the urban population

in the case of serbs in the north, they were more drawn to austrian urban centers

traveling to islamic lands such as anatolia and the middle east was a rarity, in literature it's only known that they'd travel there for religious pilgrimage to jerusalem or they'd be sent there to a dungeon for committing crimes or rebelling against the empire

intermingling did happen in urban centers, in the balkans the cities were multiethnic, populated mostly by turks, jews, greeks, bulgarians, armenians, etc.

the most multiethnic area was rumelia, the core of the empire(geographic regions of macedonia+thrace), while the rest of the empire was mostly homogenous, except in places where two nations meet
