"Panzer" refers to the entire line of German tanks, from the Panzer I (a training tank armed only with machine guns) to the 200-ton Maus. The T-34 is roughly speaking a match for the later (75mm armed) Panzer IV and the Panther, it was clearly superior to the Panzer III and everything earlier, and while inferior to the Tigers, those were heavy tanks, not medium tanks anyways, so it's to be expected that the T-34 wouldn't be a match for them 1-on-1.

I am German and I agree. The Sherman was superior almost every category (except combat strength, but this is subjective) compared to any other tank in WW2.
