Why did it take so long for civilization to begin? Modern humans have existed for 100,000 years, yet civilization beginning about 6,500 years ago.

The real mystery is how did we ever stumble on something so unlikely in the first place.
Civilization was an economic choice.
Until the end of the Ice Age, it didn't make economic sense to spend all of your time in one place farming grains, when you could be following herds of migratory animals, keeping ahead of the weather and getting way more food.
When humans first started farming, they actually stopped for like a thousand years because of the Younger Dryas cold period temporarily bringing back Ice Age weather.
