Was the Spanish Empire the greatest and most epic of all times? Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, Reconquest, Magellan-Elcano circumnavegation, discovery of the New World and the Battle of Otumba, the great Battle of Cartagena de Indias........
>>
They're top five, along with Britain, Rome, Mongolia, and maybe Persia or the Dutch or something.

I agree. It was indeed glorious, but Rome for instance..
>>
Yes, it was.
>>
>>2314359
>Spanish Empire
Hispanic / Iberian Empire was indeed God favorite
>>
>>2314359
Iberians have fallen harder than any other Empire, except Mongolia perhaps.
>>
>>2314359
lol
no.

They were just lucky for a while.

The golden century (arts-wise) was based tho.
>>
>>2315187
>They were just lucky for a while.
You can say the same about everyone. What a stupid fucking argument
>>
>>2314359
Britain was more glorious. It is much easier to genocide a foreign population than to use careful diplomacy to control them.
>>
>>2315723
>Britain was more glorious.
How? Britain is like the sneaky bastard that convinces a moron to do something extremely retarded while he steals from him. There is nothing glorious about that
>>
>>2314372
as a ducthman i'm sort of proud and confused at the same time that you mentioned us. i thaught we where mostly forgotten
>>

We've become memetic slavers, as the Brits and Americans like to portray us as the ones who got the blacks to the Americas instead of taking historical responsibility for their own acquisitions.

Also, the Republic is dead and the Kingdom is a mere shadow of something greater.
>>
>>2314359
>greatest
no. The spanish empire was extremely decadent through all of it's history, however their struggle against the whole word and against their own faults was indeed epic
>>
>>2316944
>The spanish empire was extremely decadent through all of it's history
It wasn't.That is mostly a meme.During the XVI it was only on the rise and decadence only started with Phillip the III when he chose to create 4 housing bubbles to enrich his buddies fucking up the economy. From CHarles the II to Charles the III the Spanish empire reflourished in a lot of ways and just went full decadent with Charles the IV and Ferdinand the VII

Actually, the dutch empire was never that large in land mass. We had mostly trading posts on foreign shores and didnt really colonise a lot besides Java. Even there the british still had to discover parts of the fucking island when they had control there briefly during Napoleon's annexsatiom of the Netherlands.
Colonasation and actual control of foreign lands only started in the 19th century when we had almost nothing left besides Suriname and Indonesia.

>empty wastelands
>inpenetrable mountain ranges
>impassable jungle
>vast salt flats

bravo spain
>>
>>2314359
the administration was terrible and gave birth to the widespread corruption and bureaucracy we see today
>>
>>2316963
>empty wastelands
land for new colonists
>inpenetrable mountain ranges
mountains made of silver
>impassable jungle
tropical wood was a valuable asset for trade and ship building
>vast salt flats
salt was one of the most important resources during the times of the spanish empire
>>
>>2316963
> empty wastelands
you mean the finest lands for agriculture and cattle in the world, big navigable rivers and a supermarket of natural resources
>>
>>2316963
The Spanish colonies with the Caribean and India colonies were the only colonies that turned a profit in the history of European colonialism. That is why Britain,The Dutch and the French were very interested in the Spanish colonies as they had fertile soil, rich mines and warm weather. Caracas a regional capital was bigger than New York and Boston combined in 1789. The Spanish Americas were unironically one of the most advanced places in the world before independence
