I've been watching Peterson's personality lectures, where he talks about meta-narrative and stories repeating throughout human history
I've also been watching Apocalypse Now, and if I get it, the narrative is about the mismatch between the man at war and the man at home. The surfing is the clearest example of this.
But, one thing I've seen discussed about PTSD is that the mismatch between modes of man is a modern problem and did not exist in ancient times
Are there ancient myths that deal with man's struggle between his warlike nature and the man he brings to operate in society? I can't understand how this wasn't a feature in ancient society
the epic of gilgamesh maybe?

The Iliad is a good example.
Lindymeme (I know, I know) actually has a very good video on this.

Bible has a lot of stuff dealing with warfare and nature of man in war, particularly that normal man and man of war do not come together in person. There were even some laws how man of war should isolate themselves for some time from society, before returning.
