>In 1938, the last full peacetime year and a year in which the pinch of the Roosevelt Recession especially dampened American production, nation income in the United States was nevertheless nearly double the combined nation incomes of Germany, Japan & Italy.

>Automobile manufacturing, the characteristic twentieth-century high-mass production industry and a crucial contributor to military success in the age of mechanized warfare, spectacularly illustrated the wildly asymmetrical advantage in economic resources that America wielded. American carmakers turned out 4.8 million automobiles in 1937; in the same year Germany produced 331,000 cars; Japan, just 26,000.

What the FUCK were the Axis thinking??
>>
It wasn't the axis it was Japan, and they were warned against it by a general who had studied in America and knew that they had absolutely no hope of winning any kind of conflict with America if the first blow wasn't the deciding one. It really wasn't a very good decision.

Germany was hoping that declaring war on US would lead to Japan attacking the USSR.

>1938 was the last time in history the world wasn't going to be complete shit and set on a course for shit
>Europe would be under constant threat of nuclear war for the next ~50 years
>the aftermath of WW2 directly/indirectly caused an era of white guilt, numales and cuckolds
>Germany was pseudo occupied until 1990
>theyre still on an eternal guilt trip and cant say no to refugees
>the world turned into a world focused entirely on money

Hitler underestimated how autistic Churchill was. His plan was to quickly grab some land then sue for peace, he actually admired the British Empire and allowed their soldiers to escape from Dunkirk thinking that an act of goodwill would later be reciprocated when he extended the hand of diplomacy.

>It wasn't the axis it was Japan
Hitler declared war on the USA after Pearly Harbor even though he didn't have to. Don't know why.
>>
>>2311316
what's even more puzzling is for the most part the axis powers did their own thing, there was little coordination between Germany and Japan
>>
>>2311316
He knew that the US would use it as an excuse to enter the western front anyway since Japan were allied to Germany. He hoped by showing solidarity that Japan might hit the Soviets from behind, but in either case he too underestimated Americas sheer manufacturing capacity because he would've have just renounced the partnership and tried to distance himself from Japans actions ASAP if he was aware that there was no hope of winning once the US entered the war.

It's likely that they didn't believe the numbers on the U.S. economy, as it was customary for all governments to pad such numbers for propaganda purposes.

There's a story about the Americans showing Stalin the figures on Detroit's output. He said "Ok, now show me the real figures."

let's play spot the naziboo
>>
pretty sure Hitler contemptuously dismissed America as totally irrelevant
>>

Because the U.S. was already openly giving Lend-Lease to the British, quietly giving military aid to the Soviets, and backing up their shipments with the American fleet, they had already targeted a few U-Boats.

Open U.S. involvement in Europe at that moment was a question of when, not if, and he was hoping to get one good punch in against their merchant shipping (i.e. the second happy time) before it ramped up to full power anyway.

>Hitler wanted peace with Britain
>orders Hess be executed if he ever returned to Germany and had him publicly denounced as insane, for trying to make peace with Britain

Pick one and only one

All these meme answers

>Hitler's alliance with Japan was because:
>Japan had never lost a war, he was a bit of a mystical feeling destiny type of guy and this appealed to him
>Japan was in a position to attack Singapore, a major center of UK trade and necessary for the UK war effort.
>Japan was in a position to create a two front war with the USSR

Diplomatic relations between japan and the Germans was actually very poor and awkward. Where Churchill and Roosevelt felt free to chat and run ideas off each other Germany and Japan were sending weird polite and strange messages to each other, afraid to ask what they really wanted, while also trying to promise anything, and trying to offend the other.

The particular episode in question saw Japan awkwardly asking Hitler informally if it were to make some kind of attack in the pacific and find itself at war with the USA would Germany declare war on the USA as well.

Hitler thought Japan was talking about Singapore and a US response, not Japan blowing its load on the US fleet.

In the meantime Germany had sent equally as confusing and polite requests for Japan to attack the USSR from the east, which Japan responded to by saying 'yeah we will do it soon we think maybe'.

Nobody really knows why Hitler declared war on the USA. He probably assumed Japan would declare war on the USSR which it seemed to Hitler was barely hanging on by a thread. An eastern front for the USSR would probably mean collapse form the inside or a weaking on the USSRs western front.

Hitler also needed to stop the flow of goods into the USSR from the USA and at sea they were practically in a state of war anyway so why not make it official and be free to unleash the uboats.

The axis was really shit at coordinating with each other. Germany never went through the process that the allies did in WWI of working with disjointed allies and finally working under unified command.

Germany basically controlled AH and the Ottomans.
