Islam is harder to convert because they have a set scripture that is widely distributed and can be easily acquired by most Muslims. The religions they converted were largely oral, and when they did have a scripture it was either burnt or simply lost to time, hence why many of them ended up converting to Christianity.

Like in many parts of Africa Muslim and Christian's freely intermarry a lot and you have many multi religious households.

You do realize Ethiopia expanded during the Scrambles for Africa right. The Christian part is the core that has been Ethiopian for millenia. Communist Somalia even invaded Communist Ethiopia in the Ogaden war for most of the muzzy region

Some regions of Ethiopia have 99% christians like amhara zone and some 99% muslim like the somali zone
