What happened to the progressive movement in the United States?
It seems that the American left currently focuses primarily on social issues, while abandoning its traditional positions on economics and labor in favor of a more neoliberal approach.
Pic related are a symptom of this phenomenon, but I believe the cause lies much farther back.
As a result of this, it seems that much of the Democratic Party's traditional base has shifted to the GOP, based largely on the "social conservatism" of the latter.

The Democrats know which way the demographic wind is blowing, they're basically deciding to become an equivalent of the Africa national Congress, that's why you see Mohamed marching with Pedro the illegal marching with the black transexual, once all the white boomers party politics will simply align along racial lines with surprise surprise the Republicans being the white man's party and the Democrats being for everyone else.

Short story, academia took the helm of the progressive movement in the 60's (partly thanks to its place in the protests against Vietnam) and shifted focus towards civil rights while abandoning the working class.
