Why the islamic world failed to modernize like Japan ? It's truly weird to see islam has somwhat regressed on many subjects. In the 50s, Nasser would make fun of those who wanted to force all muslim women to wear the veil. What happened ?

arab nationalism is a bigger failure than islamism and the west poured a bunch of money into radical groups in afghanistan in the 80's
>>
Japan relied on it's very robust reformations of the military to secure its interests. Arab armies never had such armies and fared increasingly poorly.

Constant international interference, corrupt leaders and absurd levels of wealth concentration.

inbreeding supression

Because nationalism failed for Islam, except Turkey, so they instead looked to their religion as source of common pride and integration.

Nah, west dindu noffin.

Because Japan was leveled and a foreign superpower forced it to modernize while pumping tons of money into it. Just like Germany and South Korea.

Japan modernized itslef. Meiji reforms happened before WW2.
>>
>>2288420
Because theyve been fucked over by the west for the last century? besides some of the islamic world already have modernized (or in the case of Afghanistan was modernized)

Modernisation isn't a goal to aspire for

>meiji reforms
>japan modernized itself

what a comprehensive analysis
>>

For about the same reason China couldn't modernize as well as Japan - it was huge, unstable, and everyone in Europe wanted to exploit the chaos to nab markets and natural resources for themselves, while Japan's only value to the West was getting nice trade and construction deals from an efficient, centralized government.

>>2288946
they're scum ideologically and genetically, they deserve to get btfo by the west

A large part of the reason was the Ottoman Empire, which was so massive and bloated that any industrialization had a hard time manifesting due to the inherent inefficiencies of imperial structured civilizations. The Empire was also hesitant to support modernization as the old guard power brokers feared it would undermine it's power. After the empire fell the west was all too happy to keep the region chaotic and underdeveloped for much the same reasons of keeping the people from being able to resist them, as well as wanting them to be poor and thus desperate to sell the west their natural resources at rock bottom prices.

>The Empire was also hesitant to support modernization as the old guard power brokers feared it would undermine it's power.
Ottomans actually started a massive modernization effort in 1850s, later the youth trained by these systems started the turkish war of independence and formed the elite of the new republic

My point is that those military guys had to outright revolt and destroy the Empire in order to save Turkey from becoming like the rest of the Mid-East. Ironically losing its empire was the best thing that ever happened to Turkey as it allowed Ataturk and his faction to modernize the country where the modernization movement you mentioned had been stifled by the bloated and inefficient nature of the state that I mentioned previously.

Because you're retarded if you think Japan is a modern country thanks to the US.

>Matthew Perry shows up on your shithole Jap island and tells you to open the fuck up
>get American dicks shoved down your throat
>150 years later talk about how japan modernized itself

Meiji shit wasn't even modernizing anyway, only thing that changed was getting modern guns. Everything else was backwards until America started writing policy and pumping money into the economy.
>>
>>2290281
You are so fucking stupid. Japan had a modern constitution with the Meiji reforms. It wasn't just building a modern army, they were imitating all the stuff that worked well in the west, like, I dunno, the educational system ?
Japan already was a very modern country before ww2. It just wasn't western.
>>
>>2290281

>Only thing that changed was the guns

But that's incorrect anon
>>
>>2290281
after perry opened up the nips rightfuly feared to be colonised so they started a massive and I mean massive modernisation. Taking the best of each western country. (for example belgian rail roads, prussian army tactics, etc). So yeah the modernized themself, perry was just the wake up call.

oil wealth allows for corrupt leaders to subsidize their country to the point where people wont rebel against them, while concentrating an obscene amount of wealth into an extremely small number of hands. It actively discourages the development of a diversified economy and civil society.

The same pattern can be seen in every other oil rich third world country, arguably every oil rich country other than Norway.
>>
>>2290316
>Japan already was a very modern country before ww2.

Sure, which exactly why its armed forces didn't suffer from the fact that most of their soldiers had never been in contact with any technology more complex than a wheel and thus had problems to adjusting to modern mechanized warfare.
>>
>>2288924
>Meiji reforms
>1868
>hurdur nothing happened before that
>>
>>2290654
What's your point ? It's a well known fact Japan experienced something close to an industrial revolution during the Edo period. Meiji reforms are still the most symbolic point in the modernization of Japan.
>>
>>2288420
Libraries were burned down thus education was fucked. When you ruin education you ruin your future more than 300 years. There is simply no revover after you lose education.

Perry wasn't even the first to lead gunboats to Japan. british expeditions had already come to the island in the decades before

Islam isn't just a religion, but also lays out rules for governing a society that dictates everything from finance to criminal law, and states that "this is the direct word of God and it is a crime to change any of it". This keeps it locked into the style of civilization only fit for desert warlordism hundreds of years ago but means it can't adapt over time.

The Japanese Shintoism is just pagan folklore and has no such framework for dictating how a society should be run.

>Islam isn't just a religion, but also lays out rules for governing a society
It actually doesn't, all Islamist memes aside. Almost everything written about governing society in the past was vague wishful thinking and theory crafting by scholars criticizing the actual way society was governed under a series of military courts haphazardly applying a mix of tribal and royal laws with some advice from religious figures taken into consideration.

>Islam isn't just a religion, but also lays out rules for governing a society that dictates everything from finance to criminal law, and states that "this is the direct word of God and it is a crime to change any of it".

I think you'd find that's how most religions work, they're not just fairy tales that convince you to give money to some asshole, they dictate how you and your society should be. The thing that makes Islam different is that most of the middle east is, as of currently, a shithole.

In nicer places, people say they believe in a religion but ignore anything that's illegal or incovenient(that's why it's possible to see christian women studying or voting).
