Voltaire has the right to be smug, he was that good at what he did (mocking the clergy to the point that even cardinals laughed at the stupidity of the catholic church) Rousseau does not, as he is just that century's equivalent of an idealistic, tree hugging, hippie who never ceased to suck the dick of "muh noble savage".

I would argue that the french philosophers became cunts after the mid-19th century when they started abandoning the classical french rationalism and materialism (far from perfect but a great tool against the upper estates of the old regime) of the enlightenment and drinking the existentialist kool-aid from Germany and Britain (this includes north America, as I am speaking of philosophical traditions and not nations when I say Germany and Britain.)
