If you consider independent city states countries than Sparta.
USA in the decade from 1991 to 2001.
>major rival [Collapses]
>US led military alliance expands
>future competitors don't have the sophisticated manufacturing base they will eventually have.
>no major military escapades that drag out for too long to reveal deficiencies in US doctrine.

As much as it pains me to say so, this.

I think the US is the most powerful country that has ever existed and Russia is a close number two.
It's not easy to talk in relativity terms here since both the US and Russia can make all life extinct on this planet if they would go all in in a nuclear war.
I myself as a european hope we can come up with something that neutralizes nuclear warfare completely. I think we europeans who lost our way many times now need to lead the way into a high-tech humanitarian world.
What is a fuel country? Ive never heard the term

Don't forget
>bomb any country that opposes you into submition

Petroleum producers
Since the two only major petroleum producing countries with military power are America and Russia, I guess that is an easy comparison to make.

When was Sparta the premier military power of it's time? When it lost to Rome? When it played an ancillary role in the Punic Wars? When it lost the Corinthian War? When it required numerous allies just to maintain it's independence against Persia?
Read something other than memes.

Don't forget power projection being a factor. Even a 'superpower' like the Roman Empire can't really do shit outside it's immediate periphery.
The US could do that globally, when none of it's 'rivals' could really extend force past their borders.
