Why were the mongols so powerful and feared?

Did europeans stand any chance against Genghis Khan and the mongol hordes in the early 1200s?

I think this is a valid question. How would western europe be changed in not only culture but warfae mknd you if the mlngols conducted raids or siege's on there door staep?
>>
Genghis Khan didn't reach Europe, his descendents did.

Yes they did stand a chance because they were not invincible. The attacks on Hungary and Poland were raids and not very successful because of the European castles, choke points created by rivers and broken terrain, forests unsuitable to cavalry and casualties from crossbows. It would have taken an effort similar to their decades long conquest of China to take over Europe, all while they had more pressing concerns elsewhere in the empire.

After reading my post i decided the need to make a key pad on a phone for full figured thumbs...

In my humble opinion i also think it had to do with the risk/yield of things. Why conquer a area that is so contested by so many factions? What is the gain if you fight for the same place over and over again? Europe is striff with this phenomenon all throughout hisyory.

>Why conquer a area that is so contested by so many factions?
Because the factions are also in that said area, thus rendering them no longer a problem.

>risk/yield
Though, yes, the Mongols actually said they lost interest because of the lack of loot, said loot was of course tucked away in the castles.

Im not contesting the dispute aboit fortified emplacements , i am disputing whether ol ghengis of khans even gave a fuck about europe as a whilo? ESPECIALLY eastern europe.

Why would the Mongols even bother with the rest of Europe? Didn't they turn around after seeing how poor Russia and Poland were compared to the caliphates and emperors?
