Gold is a sure investment long term, so no reason for gov to sell it off

So if a country decides to go back to gold standard, the united states can just inflate the worth of gold to the point the country is forced to return to the fiat system.

I agree. Alan Greenspan for example wrote several essays on why the gold standard is necessary for capitalism. I mean, this guy proved he understands a thing or two about economy later on - but why listen to him...
