Historically most wars resulted in the ascension of a new elite and possibly the assimilation of the populace, but not the driving of the populace out of their land. The Levant has been conquered countless times, but the base population has remained the same since the inception of agriculture. The Israelis are the only ones who've actually tried to replace the entire population, who ironically enough are the direct descendants of most of the ancient Hebrews.
