no, probably I don't mean classical at all. I'm not trying to specify an era or movement, I mean the canonical paintings of western civilization

I think the renaissance interests me the most. what term should I be using if not classical painting?

Oh god no. Paintings are large or huge and as such you won't get a good look at them. Also lighting. High def images on the internet are good enough.

but I do not exactly live in a cultural epicentre. I admit I've never looked into it much but I doubt I will get very far seeing paintings only in the museums.
