so we know that emotions are basic states of the organism, like operative modes
these then combine with thought patterns (which are mostly repetitive script based on same emotional content, triggering each other respectively and reinforcing in loops) to form states that are in some sense 'total' as in, they cover our perception, our consciusness, make our memory selective, set or physical reactions, determine our capacity and ability in that moment and determine most of our behavior from simple momentary things to whole longturn activities and 'what we do with life'
all of this is a irrational and impersonal set of proceses not much different from our digestion or blood-pressure, and the organism, being objectively a deaf and dumb thing like any material system basicaly has no choice but to become a 'thing-that-does-that', as in the dominant emotional states make the organism into something that maintains and reproduces those emotional states, sets of most frequently repeated thought patterns and forms condition the brain into something that repeats those patterns and forms of thought, memory content most frequently remembered conditions the system to frequently remember same content, and the behaviors that come with it all, motoric, verbal, social, all have the same effect and are results of same, till almost nothing else comprises ones reality except for variations in enviroment, and no other 'self' exists
so, then, anons, how in a hundred fucks do we controll any of that bullshit? to what extent is controling it even possible? what do?

We don't, our control is largely an illusion. We have impulses that we don't control, and our "freedom" lies in either going along with our impulses, or resisting them.

yea, im not realy looking for a historical perspective on 'how medieval people thought about histeria' and such like

The idea that there is a division between emotions (organic processes) and thought (neural processes) is pretty much outdated. Neither neurology nor social science follow this notion anymore. There is no division + emotions always have a historical/sociological contingent element to them and are only expresses in a social contexts (doing emotions) - even if you are doing it alone.
Your final question should therefor be remodeled into: "What are the determining factors or emotions that can be consciously influenced?" And the response would be artifacts, media and social groups which allow you to modify your emotional state through learning processes.

Read the first chapters though. Half of the book has nothing to do with the Middle Ages.

thats true, but again, we must control our impulses, and we do, even if thats mostly down to social conditioning
so 'largely' still means, 'not completely', theres a 'crack' in the system, there must be ways to exploit it
>>2195175
its all ultimately organic process, its judt different kinds of organic process, you can separate one from the other

>And the response would be artifacts, media and social groups which allow you to modify your emotional state through learning processes.
that sounds a lot like religion and magic
because if you observe yourself during moments of heithened emotion or overwhelming impulse, you can percieve the disjunction betveen conscious, cognitive, motoric etc... functions
it becomes obvious that 'something' is dictating the behavior, and that that 'something' isnt a choice
there are even split seconds when you are fully aware you could consciously choose to act othervise, if you had the strenght, or if you were fast enough to stop it, but still, many times, if not most times, the choice is not made by something conscious, even if youre still conscious of it while making the choice
in fact it would seem that in the moments when one sucessfully 'choses otherwise' its realy just another emotional motive that overrides the momentary impulse, that theres something more important, but its more important on a completely irrational basis
rather than allowing more freedom or control, being conscious of this seems to inform the mind that you are helpless, that its all for shit, as repeated failures and relapses pile up, the conscious knowledge of this renders one incapable of even believing it can be othervise, even believing one can control oneself, dictate ones behavior, and even tho there are moments of marginal or momentary success, these seem to be removed from memory, which in those moments is often selective, the past overtakes and determines the present and ruins all possible futures
and as this translates into that which determins your life in the longrun, the conditioned, unstopable patterns, the implicit motivations and desires, reinforced limitations and inhibitions that lay down your thoughts, words, choices and actions day in and day out year after year, it truly seems to be a totality that one cannot exit, one might as well live life with a VR box on ones head, dragged around in chains and pushed along tracks
its like we are doomed to live out somesort of biochemical hell, with no escape

Yes, but that doesn't say much since those organic processes are at least influenced by exterior factors. I suggest reading Reddy. He references all the neurological important neurological work on the subject.

>triggering each other respectively and reinforcing in loops
this describes the building of action potential, not thought pattern.
>>2195667
>think something, it triggers a feel, this triggers more thoughts, this reinforces the feel and intensifies the whole thing, asociations trigger more thoughts, these reinforce feel...
reinforcement loop

The whole point of emotions is to prepare the human body for specific, stereotyped behaviors. So if you intend to control emotions, it would make sense to select and control your environment so that you have control over known triggers for certain emotions. Basically if some individual is driving you mad, try to cut him out of your life, or attempt to identify the precise causes and work on that. Just use some commmon sense.
