What does /his/ think of the Russian empire?
How was Russia as a colonial power

It was very successful. See all that land east of the Urals? Those are its colonies.

Successful as a land-based empire, stretching from Warsaw to the Pacific at its peak
Colonially, Russians settled throughout Eastern Europe, the Baltics, the Caucasus, the steppe, and Siberia
Their overseas "colonies" in the Americas were dedicated to trading/hunting and missionary activity. Wasn't much settlement going on. But they got as far as Northern California

Most of Russia today is made of its colonies.

It was pretty cool going to Fort Ross in California and learning that it was a Russian settlement.
It would have never happened but how cool would history be if Russian and British colonists met half-way in the US. Possibly setting up their own states. How would the cold war have been different? Shit would have made everything way more intense.
What did Russia do in Mongolia?
