At this point in my life I'd really like it if the option were on the table. Deinstitutionalization was a huge meme pushed by liberals because muh progressive feels and by conservatives because they wanted to save money. Long term outcomes for the mentally ill are very grim with periods of homelessness or imprisonment in state pen almost guaranteed at some point.

Not all schizophrenia is created equal though so people shouldn't be allowed to do it right out of the gate though.
