If you were an archaeologist from a distant future time not knowing about the history of christianity and you discovered a crucifix, How would you interpret this discovery?
Veneration of someone who was killed through crucifixion.
I would have read one of the 10000000000 bibles in existence and theorize that cross was important to people. I would also notice that crosses are present in big building in city centers and again theorize that this probably has something to do with worship.
EZ
I would conclude that this has to do with some ancient human sacrifice ritual or a way to warn criminals & trouble makers by depicting their torture and spreading the image to serve as gruesome reminder. Or maybe as some sexual sado mazochism item.
To be completely honest, if I knew absolutely nothing of the human culture and Christianity, if I was an alien archaeologist and discovered a cross, I would interpret it as some sort of war/sword/phallus worship culture seeing as the human race is extinct by the time I get to discover it.

Interesting, you got a point

paper has decayed, you no longer know the technology of cds and digital stuff. the top of buildings is usually what crumbles first so it would be hard to see them on top of curches

Modern paper decays cause it's low quality, older bibles can survive 100s of years. Plus people save documents in several ways already to make sure they are not forgotten: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_of_the_World_Programme.
My point basically was that there is no archeology without (con)text.
Churches don't have to be intact for my theory. There would produce the most rubble (in rural areas) and there for the assumption that those building were important/big is still possible.

They leave out the point were Europeans conquer the whole planet cause everyone else sucked.

European history probably would look like this if they were savages without writing though.
Human sacrifice base religion. nailing people to death for good crops.
Canibals eating the meat and drinking the blood of human sacrifice victims.
Ancient aliens of course.
