Anyone ever read the Dark Bible? Interesting take on the Bible's contents but he seems to get a lot of shit wrong, such as the entirety of the paragraph below the picture. Anyone want a link?
>>
Astarte was only given a masculine name in Akkadian text, by the way. Neither the new or old testament were written in Akkadian.

>he seems to get a lot of shit wrong
Looks like a random >edgy text on the internet, of course it gets shit wrong. Mainstream biblical scholarship admits all kinds of stuff about the Bible that your average person in the pew would never think about, there's no need to waste time looking at junk like that.
>>
>>2141385
I was referring to the message which is essentially

>w-women used to have power and be respected! than the evil men came in and ruined everything! also the bible talks about gods when it's actually talking about goddesses

That in itself is a contradiction because little to nothing of the old or new testament is historically accurate, and Astarte was a name given in the Akkadian text. Also all the shit he mentioned above was predominately created in patriarchal societies.

This seems like something feminists would use as a springboard to justify hating men or something.

OK gotcha, you want to turn this into a /pol/-style rant about feminism. Have fun with that.
>>
>>2141408
Not really. Just saying that this is kinda inaccurate and dumb.

Feminism is cool but not in the sense that women should have more power and control than men as a whole.

So not in the distorted way that angry teenage boys present it on 4chan? There is a fringe view now of early societies being matriarchal. There was some Lithuanian-American archeologist who was pushing this idea until quite recently. It goes back to the 19C though. Marx and Engels took it seriously as it was orthodoxy of its day.

In any case mainstream biblical scholarship - not apologetics - will admit the background of biblical texts, what was the same, what was different, and why it mattered.

this is complete bullshit anon

you can tell its bullshit because it simplifies thousands of years of cultural and religious history draws ad hok paralels betveen things that might not even have a connection, and makes conjectures that do not follow

for example, even tho the genesis story does come from babilonian mith, and many cultures from africa to central asia have variations of the story, this shows they were at some point part of the same cultural circle, but not that these were the same religion, the same cult, or even that the cultures were similar

the same thing is seen all over the world, different cultures with different religions and different mentalities and worldviews sharing these or those elements of regional mythology, while still being videly different

also, that a population has a cult of a female deity, entity, persona, does not automaticaly mean they treated women this way or that

in fact female deities and female aspects of the divine realy only indicate that the cultures metaphysical system had notions that were expressed as personified female characters, or that the beliefs and religious interpretations were articulated using female personifications of something

catholics had female saints and a major, practicly divine figure of the mother of god, celestial queen, protector etc... for generation after generation, and it didnt realy improve the status or treatment of women much, different hindu denominations have female deities and the female aspect of the divine is prominent in most traditions and popular custom, but we know how women are treated in hindu culture, greco-roman religion abounded with female characters, the list goes on and on

its all bullshit

complete bullshit anon

its JoS tier crap

The likelihood of all early societies being matriarchal in general is sort of low. Not denying they exist but the concept of ALL of them being exactly the same in social structures is a bit far-fetched.

I always just saw it as some shit that people say to make the argument that everything would be better if women ran the world or something. The view in general seems pretty small and obscure so I don't know.

Also I thought it was only Engels who dabbled in anthropology, not Marx.
>>
>>2141480
It's highly unlikely any pre-historical society was matriarchal. Humans are closer in social games to chimpanzees than bonobos.

People don't understand that a patriarchy is in many ways beneficial to women, because they outsource sexual competition to men; men have to prove themselves to women, not the other way around.

Feminism is an ideology since only sees the negative externalities of patriarchy, and not the positives.
>>
>>2141499
Kinda like how people cherry-pick the more Graphic parts of the Bible and than just ramble about how bad it is?
>>
>>2141540
Pretty much. Or how religious fundamentalists make gay marriage their only political obligation to stop in life.
>>
>>2141554
I'm still kinda wondering how he came up with the information that shit such as wheeled vehicles and written language developed in matriarchies.

Or how vague and arbitrary the explanation of "hurr durr this god is actually a goddess" is. Egypt was patriarchal for most of it's ancient history.
>>
>>2141675
He probably wanted a empirical justification for wanting some kind of egalitarian utopia in the future.

The problem is, he was wrong. Writing and the wheel were invented in Sumeria, and that was absolutely *not* a matriarchal society.

Even their whole religious myth is predicated on the hero God Marduk destroying the Chaos monster Tiamat and fashioning the world out of her, and the authority of the king was based upon how much of a "Marduk" he was in his doings as a king.
>>
>>2141224
Seems a bit "we wuz goddesses n sheeit" desu
>>
>>2141775
Weren't most inventions and delevopments occurring independently from other countries anyways?
>>
>>2141883
Yes, because it's mostly based on pragmatism.

The Aztecs used maize as a crop for example, whereas the Europeans used grains, because that's what they had available.
>>
>>2141924
Weird how he also doesn't mention the supposed "jealous, obscene male war god". The only God that I can think of that was ever jealous was Aphrodite.

Why is it I cryptic? It would make more sense just to mention the Gods name.
>>
>>2141823
it's literally the biggest reactionary garbage that anthropologists and feminists alike tend to do
