What meaningful difference is there between a state and a private entity large enough to not need a state to protect its claim on property such as land?
Please?

Public perception and perceived legitimacy of actions. Beyond that I don't think there is one.
A private entity only has power because it has money. That money is printed by the State, and it can take away its value whenever it wants.

What's to stop them from creating their own currency?

> because it has money
And power of state somehow based on being poor?

I feel like this happens alot with powerful militarizes that outgrow the government. I don't think it has happened with a pirvate entity ever. Accept for maybe when rich roman dudes started to amass huge private armies but idk nouttin abuot history

Was East India Company private?

No, they got a monopolistic charter by the crown. They were largely private, having their own armies and everything.

>No
What exactly do you disagree with? Nothing you said refutes what I said.

I think he means that it was technically private but not genuinely independent from the United Kingdom, regardless of how it affected their ability to operate.

The fact that one exists in the real world. Though Saudi Arabia might be the next best thing.
