Did FDR really end the great depression or did his policies only make it worse or did they have no affect at all?

I know the left raise him on a pedestal and use him as an example of why big government and socialism are good. At the same time, the right vilifies him by calling him a tyrant and say he made the depression worse.

So which is it /his/?

The free market fixed.

All the guys in pic related started businesses.

FDR just took all the (((credit))).

Have you taken the red pill yet?

Technically, WW2 finished off the depression, but that was simply an even larger form of Keynesian stimulus.

FDR's main accomplishment is totally reshaping the role of Government in American life. Before FDR the main way that the federal government could be seen in your average citizen's life was the post office. The Federal government was dwarfed by the states until The New Deal changed what the essential purpose of the Federal Government was. The "New Deal" didn't end the great depression, but it no doubt served to alleviate the immense misery & suffering of poor Americans during it.

It was also the destruction of all our competitors, who also owned us billions by the end of the war
>>
He made it last longer than it needed it to and started the military industrial complex.
The man didn't fix anything that couldn't have been fixed by someone else.

The "free market" is what fucked it up in the first place. Roosevelt actually cared more about balancing the budget, but after watching Hoover doing that, and failing, he decided to listen to Keynes. His policies brought the US out of the depression so he then decided to cut spending again. This immediately caused a return to the depression and by the time he tried to fix it, WW2 rolled around and this happened >>2102397
