So /his/, I come to you with a question about a potential payday for me.
I've been going through my grandpa's coin collection of ~5000+ coins that have been sitting in the attic of my grandmother's house for over 40 years and I've just come across I coin I need some help with.
I know that most 1943 pennies were made of steel and appear silver in color but there were a few copper 1943s produced and released by error that are worth $60,000+. I just found this in a case marked "1943 steel (?)" but it appears to be copper. It also does not stick to a magnet like a normal steel penny and the 3 does not look like a filed 8.
What do I have here?
Here's the reverse side
I don't know dude? Take it to a fucking coin shop for something. Do you honestly think people here are going to answer your stupid question?

Seems like a /biz/ question to me

I thought that maybe /his/ would cover collecting and collectables.

Well obviously but first I wanted to check here in case there was anyone more knowledgable than I am to say whether or not I'm wasting my time or if there is anything valuable.
It's very possible it's authentic, and in which case you've come into a windfall because only forty examples of those coins are known to exist.
But we can't verify it for you. Forgeries were common, created by filing down the date on the 1948 penny. You'll have to send it in to PCGS or similar to get real money out of it. Nobody will buy it without certification, too many fakes floating around.

Also as a side note, I wouldn't take it into a coin shop. Coin dealers can be shitty and try to swindle you, esp. small local ones. Get it certified and put it on eBay.

Can't be a 1948 because here is one for example. The 8 is much too different to be filed into a 3. Conpare the photos and see for yourself.
Looks good to me
Mail it to me OP, I'll take a look and get back to you

This is copper. I have the steel ones and they don't look like that. You should take it to a coin specialist to see what it's worth.

That's what I might do. Do you know if I'll have to pay to have it looked at?
>>2092634
I mean it looks legit. I have a few thousand wheat pennies that I organize every now and then. All the 1943 ones I have are steel, and the one you showed doesn't look filed, not that the shape of the 3 would allow that.
Just get it verified. I'd go to a few different sources to confirm it. If it's real I'd either sell it to a museum or keep it safe and preserved. I would never sell it on Ebay. It's too historic and valuable.

Send it to NGC or PCGS to have it verified and graded.

More than a penny imo
