Cicero's slave was extremely important to him in his life. George Washington had a slave that played a similar role though not as long as Cicero's I imagine. Same goes for those many confederate soldiers who had slaves accompany them on campaigns and helped with a bunch of little things such as preparing meals and washing clothes for their masters.
