>where did the true Franks end up?
They dispersed through the whole carolingian empire from Brittany to northern Italy, from Saxony to the Pyrenees due to the habit of redistributing conquered land to the soldiers.
They most likely didn't end up making up the majority of any area they controlled, and eventually got assimilated by the locals.
The areas with the highest concentration of Franks were Flanders and north east France.

In other words, Belgium.
It's important to notice that Franks had already established themselves there , , , ,and in the left bank of the Rhine in what is today Germany, long before the fall of Rome as allies and auxiliari of the Romans to keep that part of the border secure from other Germanics.
