Now the nazi didn't actually had to go into all the territories of the world to win : modt of africa was owned by europeans powers for exemple, all that the germans had to do was to defeat the owner in Europe, like they did with France and like they intended to do with Britain. If you had yo conquer ALL of an enemy territory to win a war, then no one woud ever been able to defeat Russia, however Germany did it during WWI, and later, Finland vs USSR.

you do realize in these types of wars its not clear whos on whos side until it already started right? Hitler wasnt even looking for a world war either, he assumed that the polish partition would be appeased because the soviet union also invaded it at the same time. He didnt know that the western powers secretly allied with the soviets.

Because from their point of view it didn't look like they could have never possibly have won.

Germany was militarily successful enough in WW1 to give the leadership the impression that under a maximisation of the tactical potential even the two-fronts war could be won. Germany was capable of holding the front in the west against both France and Britain and essentially defeating Russia militarily in the East. That a war of such scale cannot be won through sheer tactical military prowess alone is the lesson to be learned here. And that Russia shouldn't be underestimated.
