What are some other successful libertarian countries in history besides the USA? I am looking for other countries with emphasis on free markets, individualism, and limited government.

the underwater city of rapture.

i dont know that answer but im going to guess none and partly the reason why that is, is that though based on ideas from non-americans, i think the libertarianism youre thinking of is actually a distinctively american ideology that you don't really come across much outside of america. Maybe i'm wrong, but thats to my knowledge now.

>also tfw america isn't libertarian.

japan is barely libertarian, it's more socialist and has much less wealth inequality

Switzerland,Lichestein or Hong Kong (kind of)

Other than the wild west the US was never libertarian.

When was the US a libertarian country?

Switzerland, 725 years of being free, democratic and gun fanatic in a sea of European feudalism and freedom haters.

More like the lack of civilization and law enforcement made it a temporary Ancapistan.
>>

it was libertarian tot he extent classical liberals are part of the broader US libertarian movement.

but liberals tend to be consequentialist so they are not prone to the extremism and dogmatism of ancaps and miniarchists

They got more guns and better gun rights than anyone else in Europe. Also, conservative government, low taxes, high personal freedom.

Fun fact, French come to Switzerland now as economic refugees, and suck cock for a work permit. How times change.
>>
>>2013477
Economy driven by immigrants and the state providing a tax haven. Culture is a blend of it's neighbors. Switz gun laws would be considered restrictive in the USA. As for personal freedom and health, there is a weird relation: the state forces you to buy private insurance and forces the insurance companies to accept you.
>>
>>2013555
Still makes them better than anyone else in Europe. Also, never joined Nazis, stayed neutral and took care of their own shit.
>>
>>2013555
>state forces you to buy private insurance and forces the insurance companies to accept you.
Why not just nationalize it if they are forcing everyone to play ball?

Germany, holland, belgium, austria and the czech republic all have less restrictive gun laws.
>>
>>2013676
Bullshit. Just bullshit. safe for Czech they are all highly restrictive.
>>
>>2013477
yeah but they have a completely different gun culture to usa. Their gun ownership is high because of the military. americas obsessed with the right to have guns and it just makes them look like idiots. People are obsessed with wanting to walk around with guns for protection when its different in switzerland.
>>
>>2013664
Dunno. Inefficiency creating jobs would be my ultra-pessimist guess. Maybe it would be harder for a central authority to control all of healthcare in a state as decentralized as Switzerland? I honestly don't know but guessing is fun.

>>2013697
>rest of europe
>Get gun/hunting liscense, buy semiautomatic rifle/pistol for private use.

>get gun when drafted and you can keep it with ammunition.
>unable too use it, and every year the goverment checks the amount of bullets you have.
>if you have less then you will face an heavy fine.

Sorry to burst your bubble bud.
>>
>>2013732
This. American gun nuts have a very anti-state rethoric. The state of Switzerland encourages gun and militia culture for the sake of national security rather than personal liberty.
>>
>>2013618
>Also, never joined Nazis, stayed neutral and took care of their own shit.

You can actually buy guns ins Switzerland in the shop. And you don't need a hunting license. Sorry to bust your bubble
>>
>>2013779
>>praising Switzerland because of luck with mountains
So same as the Austrians then?
>>
>>2013792
HITLER backed off on plans to Anschluss the Swiss in 1940 because of the mountains.

Look it up.

Operation something or other.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estimated_number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

They have a liberal gun laws by European standards and the highest per capita gun ownership in all Europe. Pretty much the only European hasgunz on /k/ outside the US.
>>
>>2013802
Didn't back up form Austria, and they are in the same Mountains.
>>
>>2013787
You also buy guns in shops in europe and you get your gun liscence when you get drafted in swiss. If you arn't drafted you still need an liscence.
>>
>>2013828
Which is very easy to get in Switzerland, just file it for background check and then you can buy 3 guns of your choosing. File another one and you can buy 3 more and so on.
It is the most liberal system in all of Europe.

Operation Tannenbaum was the German plan to invade Switz
National Redoubt was the Swiss plan to make invasion to costly to be practical
pic related

>>2013842
You can actually buy some guns without a license, like shotguns. Just walk into a shop, buy a shotty, pay cash, and walk away.
>>
>>2013843
Well, Switzerland was surrounded by Nazis, had huge pressure on them, where predominantly German speaking, and still they preferred their independence over Anschluss, even when treated with a war they could impossibly win?
Makes them pretty unique in my book.
>>
>>2013864
>Switzerland was surrounded by Nazis
>>
>>2013818
After ww1 austria was completely torn apart had pretty much no army whatsoever. They had no possiblity of defending themselves even if they wanted.
>>
>>2013864
>even when treated with a war they could impossibly win?
but they could Anon, because of the mountains
>>
>>2013890
Having your population centers overrun and entrench in the mountains is not exactly winning, especially not if your civilians are in the beneficial care of the Nazis.
>Yes, you are delusional, they could have made it expensive, but winning, not a chance in hell.
>>
>>2013879
>After ww1
Another World War where Switzerland kept out, seems like a good policy.
>>
>>2013902
preservation of the swiss state in spite of occupation of large portions is tantamount to winning the way i see it, especially when you consider that this scenario wouldn't be in isolation, but factored in with the other fronts.
