Lenin was a pretty swell guy, he managed to come out on top despite starting out as one of the leaders of a relatively small faction. He did sensible things in regards to creating the Soviet state (not holding on to people who clearly didn't want to be a part of it, like Finns; pushing for recognition and support of non-Russian ethnicities in order to keep them satisfied; in general insisting on a federalist design instead of a unitarian one) and he didn't shy away from taking reasonable measures even if they contradicted some of his own views (NEP). Unlike most communist dictators and most dictators in general he also did not partake in cult-building (though that was done for him later). That being said, we didn't get much time to see what he would do with the Soviet Union during peacetime, seeing as he wasn't able to get much stuff done since 1922 due to his ilness.

By no means flawless, but definitely one of the better ones.

Because contrary to what normal people expect, once you get deep into a political movement and ideology you'll spend most of your time fighting rival but similar factions, former allies, dissidents and your own group.
The real fight against the supposed ancestral
"enemies" of your group takes 20% at most, and becomes more of a background for the real fight within your ideology.
