At least in renaissance Italy the priests spoke badly of the jews. They were said to kill christian children to make their matzes and do other kind of rituals, and they were also said to desecrate the host by stabbing it, boiling it etc.
Also, jews were the murderers of Christ.
Christians were not allowed to 'tax' others for money the lend, but jews could.
The jews were put into ghettos, nice little gated communities so they couldn't harm Christians. But the Chrisians were then suspicious of weird jew magic happening there.

Jews typically went into the businesses to do with money lending, banking, trade, small business and anything that really allowed them to make money without higher education.
