What can /his/ tell me about the Amish?
Will they be able to retain their traditional way of life?

They started as a radically conservative offshoot of the Mennonites and came from Germany.

They're also not opposed to technology the way most people seem to assume they are. They're not really Luddites, they just don't believe in using any technology they think will distract from God or cause an increase in personal vanity. Because of that, there are plenty of modern things that Amish people do use.

>Will they be able to retain their traditional way of life?
Probably. They have until this point, and the people who maintain it do so completely voluntarily. Again, they don't shun modern technology wholesale, just certain things they feel conflict with their morals. As long as Amish people want to maintain their current way of life (which they don't seem to have a problem with), it's going to continue.

There's a partially Amish-run market right up the street from me. When I was a toddler it was a traditional open-air market with dirt everywhere. Over my life they haphazardly roofed it up, put down tiles, installed air conditioning, and just now got lights that make it possible to see what the fuck you're doing.
I would never recommend an Amish market unless you're balls deep in their territory, all the ones on the fringe here resemble Kowloon. They're abominations designed by people who have never held a lightbulb but are asked to install them. Also open 12 hours a week.

My point is they use modern tech, but about as well as your grandmother after she had that stroke.

>What can /his/ tell me about the Amish?

Just wacky devout protestants who dress funny.

>Will they be able to retain their traditional way of life?

Absolutely. They do fine for themselves. They don't just farm, you know. They also do trades, work in markets, run inns/roadside stands, and hire themselves out to construction companies. Living in rural Pennsylvania, especially when you live a lifestyle like the Amish, isn't very expensive to maintain.

It's pretty crazy the Amish would vote for a ruthless business man (literally the symbol of amoral modernity) who has been divorced twice and fucked a bunch of different women. I mean I know Hillary 's senpai isn't so much better but still.
