Are there any nonmeme answers as to why France didn't launch attacks into Germany while most of Germany's forces were in Poland?

France wasn't 100% ready, but many troops were and they could have launched probing attacks to search for weaknesses from the safety of the Maginot line and through Belgium as well as force Germany to pull troops back from Poland.

Because

A) France mobilized slowly, and was still not 100% in May of 1940

B) Their logistical system was crap.

C) The Germans did not have 'Most of their forces in Poland', unless you count things at the start of the war. Yes, they had about 60 divisions in Poland and maybe 15 on the west on September 1st, but they were calling up new divisions all the time, and could have easily contained a French offensive with the newly called up troops. By the end of October, they had over 120 divisions mobilized.

Any French gains would be temporary and soon reversed; they didn't have the capacity to roll into Berlin like some people obviously seem to think.

It would not have forced them to pull troops back from Poland, it would just have forced them to put the newly mobilized troops there, which they were doing anyway.

Because they were actively preparing for war when most of the rest of Europe was looking for ways to stop anything like WW1 from happening again.

Well, for starters, intelligence was less than perfect. Secondly you still had a lot of WW1 style thinking, in which advances were slow and grinding compared to the pace you had in WW2. A few weeks difference in mobilization speed wasn't going to make that much difference, or so conventional wisdom went. It was still going to be decided by weight of firepower and a slow advance.

Well, they didn't want to see, for one part. It's hard to come to other conclusions when shit like the Mechlen incident went down. But they managed to convince themselves that this WASN'T another round of total world war, that this would be a 3 month incident and someone would back down, and they didn't want to get squashed between their two much larger neighbors.

Poland ended the war with less than half of their units mobilised. Keep that in mind.

Had Poland started mobilization in mid August, as indented, the whole campaign would look completely different.
