Wow.

I just realized that every major civilization to have existed (USA, Rome, China) has upheld three things in common: large plains, plenty of rivers and massive production of carbohydrates.

Underdeveloped places like Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa don't have any of those.
>>

You can tell that to the us Brazilians.
>>
>>1975753
>Sub-Saharan Africa
>No large plains and plenty of rivers
West Africa is full of plains and rivers and the Congo is literally one giant river basin.

With that said, it's no coincidence that West Africa was also one of the most developed parts of Africa.
>>
Explain Britbongs or mongols then
Also, it's difficult to consider China a consistent civilization as it fractured itself every 5 minutes
>>

Latin America? Huh? Mexico was one of the most populous regions in (Pre-Columbian) America for exactly that reason -- they had extremely fertile soil and carby staple crops (maize and squash etc) hundreds of years before the northern groups.

You can strike off "large plains" once a group invents terrace farming, as with the Inca, SE Asians, etc.

Also, Greece doesn't really fit the bill, a lot of it kinda sucks for farming, although they still managed.
>>
>The US is a civilization
Time to stop playing videogames, dear K-On poster.
>>
the aztec capital was the same size as the largest cities in europe at the same time.
>>

If you conquer enough land, you will end up with lots of rivers and plains.

iirc there was an ironworking civilization hanging out in the congo river basin circa roman times that we'd probably find a lot more interesting and impressive today had they written anything down about themselves.
>>
Look between the letters "t" and "o" in your keyboards :3

>Rome
>large plains
You now realize that Italy is a montainous country and by the time the romans got their hand on a large plain (the po basin, or if you don't count that because it's too small, then the aquitaine basin) it was already the late republic period and Rome was already the foremost Mediterranean power.

and the Congo has shit soil, massive forests that instant reclaim anything you build up and awful weather/disease.
>>
>>1975753
>big civilizations eat big
this is kind of obvious
>>
>>1975753
South America has huge plains (pampas, llanos), big navigable rivers (Amazon, Parana, Uruguay, Paraguay, Orinoco, Magdalena) and agriculture ofc

>eat big to get big also applies on the country-scale
It makes so much sense now.
>>
>>1976072
South America was also home to very impressive pre-Colombian civilization.
>>
>>1975816
mongols (and vikings ) made a living off of pillaging other people. Britain survived thaks to their awesome navy. Also don't forget that many of these European countries directly north of the Mediterranean had lots of Roman inflence before it fell. Same with spain, Germany, etc.
Also Imperialism
that goes to >>1975771
too. It tends to fuck up countries at the benefit of other.

They got all the carbohydrate they needed by trading with Egypt (the literally depended on them)
Egypt got all the iron it ended by trading with them and others.
