I don't mind free-staters nor do I mind Irish republicans in general.

I don't consider the IRA in the Troubles terrorists-nor should anyone who knows shit all about the conflict itself. Granted, toward the end of the Troubles it had devolved into who could revenge-kill harder, but regardless.

I just hate people who draw arbitrary lines between groups who were by and large the same goddamn thing.

Anti-English sentiment grew after they were mistreated, if English hadn't been dicks to them Ireland would happily stay in the UK because they put castles in our bogs and taught us how to wash.

The uprisings (the serious ones, anyway) came from serious mistreatment of people in Ireland.

Ulster is no exception, when the Irish people there were oppressed heavily by harsh laws on housing, employment and voting.
They tried to protest peacefully but were met with violence from both the police and paramilitary groups.

100% of Irish Independence is based on the British being assholes. There is no "right" to be free and Ireland was never about being unified and independent; they were at their most unified under English rule, and then the English were cunts.

A culture around these rebellions has emerged though, as many people say Irish people are some of the best guerilla fighters that the world has seen.

The main issue is that the anti-british sentiment hasn't died, as much as it should have.
Ireland's bitterness over England doing what any capable country would have with rhyme or reason has utterly fucked them over in the end, because many Irish politians just want to be the opposite of whatever England is.

This has left Ireland a bit fucked. Not too bad, but not really all that special considering how hard we fought for freedom.
