It was necessary to purge royalists. But it goes too far. Average 16500 people got guillotined, 30 persons per day. Sometimes for nothing.

Just calling someone by "Monsieur" (mister) instead of "Citoyen" (citizen) could be enough to get killed

Idk if you're trolling(you might be considering the stirner posting) but many people unjustly lost their lives, including women and some children. Mostly due to suspicions that were in some cases were unjustified. Hell, there was evidence that the killing of Louis VI wasn't even that necessary, it was the nobility that were being assholes, even then it wasn't all. Yet all the anti monoarchists were going bat shit on anyone who might be a royalist.

It was neither necessary nor unnecessary, but it was certainly inevitable. Violence was a persistent feature of the Revolution from the very beginning, at the Bastille. The Reign of Terror was an attempt to centralize and control it.
