Because they had agreed the Soviets would take Berlin, even if they had wanted too, the Soviets would of taken it any way, probably with far fewer casualties.
The US reached and effectively halted at the Elbe on the 11th of April. The Soviet had halted on the Oder on the 1st-2nd of Febuary, less than 100km from Berlin.
Why didn't the Soviet march on Berlin then? Because the Allies hadn't agreed on who would occupy Austria, so the Soviets (knowing that they had Berlin guaranteed) transferred their best armies south to take Vienna as Patton dashed towards it. And took Berlin when they had the time later.
