Why did the term "mongoloid" become an insult of low intelligence in western europe, especially when the Mongols outsmarted whites numerous times and were actually more tolerant and progressive in some some ways, not to mention china being an as advanced?

Someone with Down syndrome has certain facial characteristics reminiscent of a mongol person, hence the expression "mongoloid" (i.e. "mongol-like") since the person appears similar to a mongol.

Timurlame ruined the noble reputation of Mongols Gingis Khan had acquired. Europe always equated him with the Mongols. It also does not help that Muslim sources were not truthful at all on Mongol conquests of Kwarez out of spite and jealousy.
