You seem to be talking through the other poster. It's not that India was independent of British Control, it's that the British Colony was self-sustaining. The troops to guard it were raised in India, the costs were funded by India, using taxes levied on Indians. India cost Britain nothing, and operated on entirely seperate finances. The cost of the war had nothing to do with the loss of India.
