How was the Civil War able to come to such a peaceful end following the Civil War?
Why weren't any Confederate leaders or generals hung for treason?
Why didn't any southern troops attempt guerilla war?
is this a joke because that's exactly what happened?

No Confederate Leader was ever executed for treason, but a few nobodies were executed for war crimes.
Lee and Davis were allowed to die peaceful deaths.
Robert E. Lee was allowed to live as a free man, despite being directly responsible for the death of hundred of thousands of Americans.

it was part of the terms of surrender, in exchange for peaceful surrender, all Confederate soldiers and leadership were allowed to return home with their horse.
also it's a political move to prevent resentment/resistance. just going on a spree of trying and killing southern leaders and soldiers would do nothing but stir up guerrilla war and other civil resistance. Treating the South as a conquered peoples and not as American citizens would almost certainly create a more permanent split between Southerners and Northerners forever.
Nobody was hanged for teaspoon because the goal, as with the war itself, was to preserve the union. We tried to heal as one nation rather than be two nations, with one punishing the other.
Wasn't there a Clint Eastwood film that made up nonsense about northern troops massacring southern captives following the war's end?
