Does education actually help building a democracy, or its just a meme and good education doesnt really help the people into becoming good citizens? Whats the state of democracy in countries with supposed excellent public education systems, like Finland?
Yes. Democracy is voting by the people. When people are more educated, their vote becomes more meaningful. Instead of just playing lottery/random chance.

Of course better education makes for better democracy. See the Nordics or the Switz for good examples. You couldn't really transplant their political systems to other countries, because their citizens are much more skilled and civic-minded than most people in the world, including a lot of the West.
Imagine what elections look like in countries where the majority is illiterate.

>See the Nordics
Aren't they self hating and filling their country with refugees for no logical reason?

Of course it helps. Playing off the ignorance of the people is politics 101 after all.
That said, the subject matters. It's not about education in general really, it about having at least a grounding in the subject of public policy and administration.

Sweden does that, and unsurprisngly they have the worst education among the nordicks.

Probably the reason why so many African countries failed post-colonialism. Universal Suffrage, a process that took place over centuries for Western Democracies, happened as soon as the African countries gained independence, allowing so many corrupt demagogues to come into power.

No that's a meme. IIRC Sweden had lax immigration laws for a few years because of a parliamentary deadlock that was resolved by the votes of a small pro-immigration party who wanted concessions, however the laws have since been tightened.
As for "filling their countries with refugees", well no country is doing that. The refugees are coming themselves. They want to go to Germany and Sweden because they keep hearing how great Germany and Sweden are.

I think it's overrated. Even among the educated, most people don't have the time nor inclination to learn much about politics.
A literate populace is simply the bare minimum you need for a functioning democracy the same way being able bodied is the bare minimum for playing an impromptu game of soccer. It doesn't it mean that you'll necessarily end up with a good democracy or a good soccer game.
Its actually possible to devise a good education? Even if the teachers are good and the contents are good, the Government can easily inject propaganda into the educative program, indoctrinating the pupils.
Our democracy here in finland is much better than the american in that americans have two parties that are basically the same and they alternate being in power while we have a more sophisticated system of three parties that are basically the same that alternate in power.
