What was the reality of piracy like, /his/? Were the majority of them illegal smugglers, outlaw bandits, or state-sponsored privateers? Did they live on their ships hiding from the law or did they hang out on the coast in taverns getting drunk? Did they sail the seas aimlessly or stake out their turf? Did they have secret pirate island headquarters? Were they bro-tier?

Pirates are people, believe it or not and people are different.
I'm sure there were many different situations that brought about many different types of pirates, some probably had intentions akin to a folk hero like Robin Hood, and others were there to gape little boi pucci like yours.
