Tell me about German Stormtroopers
Tell me about the Arditi
Tell about the elite units of WW1
What's their to know?
Are there any other well known WW1 elite units?
What tactics and weaponry did they use?
How were they formed and evolved over the war?
Also general WW1 thread I guess.
All I can remember is that German Stormtroopers pioneered infiltration tactics, and the use of grenades before a quick assault. Imagine you aren't carrying a rifle, but instead have a bit bag just loaded with grenades.
They also had extremely high casualty rates unfortunately for being so elite due to the nature of their work.

not really
those are things they had indeed been doing
but they hardly pioneered it
infiltration tactics such as the above were being developed as early as 1916 and by most combatants
the one thing the germans pioneered was gathering up veteran soldiers into dedicated formations
this also proved to be their undoing as they inevitably suffered high losses and so were doubly weakened - the german manpower situation was bad to begin with, but losing experienced cadres further added to the injury

A meme
Here's how they fared when storming a shitty fort
Keep in mind that the enemy surrendered because they had no water left

Pretty sure Napoleon did that before them

1916 though.

It's happened all throughout history. Romans for example.
