Is there any historical society more overrated than Nazi Germany? For years I have been forced to listen to people talk about this stupid fucking regime and their stupid fucking war. Especially stupid fucking "le which tank was most ebin?" and "how could Hitler have won?"

They're largely irrelevant IRL, but I'm tired of hearing about how British meme colonies in Africa were literally heaven on Earth because a bunch of gun-fetishists have wet dreams about putting on short-shorts and mowing down black people with impunity.

>implying Rhodesia wasnt great compared to every other shithole in africa
>>1874915
they did a LOT in just ten years, thats quite admirable i think
>>1874957
Not really.

Albert Speer's writings on how the Third Reich was run really debunks a lot of the stereotypes of Germany being some hyper-organized state with strict discipline, with industrial production always falling short, SS training was surprisingly lenient and lax, and theft between soldiers as well as money laundering/fraud was rampant.
In reality, when Germany was paid up soldier to soldier, or tank to tank against the allied powers, they were very comparable, or even outmatched in a few cases such as the Panzer IV to the T-34 and KV-1.
The cause of Germany's early successes was communication and coordination, with radios allowing for the Panzer Corps and the Luftwaffe to work together with infantry to launch devastating strikes and make quick advances. Once the allied caught up in communication, Germany and the Allies were trading pretty equal blows until Germany ran out of resources to continue the fight.

>great compared to every other shithole in africa
Yeah... It had that going for it...
>>1874957
getting your shit pushed in within a decade by objectively superior countries is admirable?

People think Hitler "built" this great german martial prowess when he really just inherited the Prussian one dating back to Frederick the Great. And even then, he fucking blew it.
And their entire structure with this bullshit bloated bureaucratic nightmare filled with nothing by sycophants. And no one even really gave a shit beyond the fact that at least it was better than the Weimer Republic during the great depression. It reminds me of some quote I heard from an old italian guy who said everyone loved mussolini, but didnt give a shit about fascism.
Theres all those stories about SS officers getting fragged by the Heer after they tried to make them force some gay dogma late into the war.

>make them force some gay dogma late into the war.
wtf I love nazis now?!
>>1874993
German military history is fantastic UNTIL you get to Hitler, exactly

The last push of the Germanic peoples to be relevant again. Why wouldn't this be a hugely fascinating topic? Since Europe went through the whole Germanic thing, the end of their "reign" is a pretty interesting thing.
>>1875385
Merkel still working in 4ºReich.
>>1875385
Because there's literally thousands of years of history of other cultures with far more interesting stories.
>hur hur some buttblasted weak nation lost a war
>interesting
>>1875465
German people rule Europe for a millennium and a half and then they lose it and try to regain their power and this is not an interesting topic?
I want /his/ to change the rule to "no discussion about things in the last 100 years". We get rid of Nazi AND commieshits.
>>1875609
Maybe you should join a community more focussed than /his/? /his/ is a general history and humanities board. The PAST 100 years are a part of history and thus will be discussed here.

>German people rule Europe for a millennium and a half
Dafuq
>>1875514
More like German people chimp out and are mostly irrelevant for millennia. Become somewhat relevant for a century or so before chimping out massively and blowing it all away.
>>1875659
Northern French people are Germanic. English people are Germanic. Northern Italians are Germanic. Normans in Southern Italy are Germanic. Germans are Germanic, obviously. Yeah, I'd say they pretty much dominated Europe.
>>1875670
He said German not Germanic.
>>1874993
>People think
It's really just /pol/
A reasonable case could even be made for National Socialism, but instead of making it they conjured up a totally revisionist narrative.
>>1875685
Ah, you're right. I am the OP there and I meant Germanic. My bad.
>>1875670
>implying """Germanic""" is a relevant category and not just a ridiculous meme
>>1874915
All crusades except the first were a meme and even that was a meme
>>1875707
It's as relevant as "slavic"
>>1875514
please tell me you're not talking about the Holy Meme Empire
>>1875716
So irrelevant? Though at least Pan-Slavism was a thing that had appeal to multiple different Slavic peoples, while Pan-Germanism was never taken seriously by anyone but the Germans themselves
>>1874953
For the White people maybe......
>>1875716
so, not very?
>>1875729
It was better for the black people too
>>1875727
Yes you're right. Regardless I think the last push for pan-Germanism is a pretty interesting topic to study.
>>1875727
I was under the impression nobody actually bought into Pan-Slavism and it was more of a justification for Russia trying to steal all of its neighbors
>>1875783
Lots of Czechs, Serbs, and even Bulgars liked it. But in a different sense than the Russians: they didn't want to be part of Russia, but wanted their own independent states, but allied with Russia, with Russia helping them get independence
>>1875794
>allied with Russia, with Russia helping them get independence
That sure worked out well.
>>1875685
He could be referring to the German rulers in the various European countries. A significant majority of the ruling Houses of Europe were ethnically German.
>>1875385
And yet Germany is still the most relevant country in Europe.
