During the American Revolutionary War, did the British soldiers always wear the red uniforms even in harsh or inopportune conditions?

>inopportune conditions

What inopportune conditions?
Anyway bright uniforms were the norm of warfare back then, and you have to remember that the US Revolution was mostly fought through convential battles and not gorilla warfare as recent American revisionism has tried to make it out to be since the defeat in Vietnam

It's summer, you're marching through the woods, it's 105 degrees. Do you take off your uniform coat?

No. It's called 'pride' and 'decorum'.
>>
Did they though?
Awaiting responses

Yep, that worked real well in Afghanistan. An entire army wiped out.
>>
>>1872097
Yeah, they were retards who were shot by their own compatriots for dissertation. And so they kept the coats on.
>>
If you took your uniform off you could get executed for being a spy or punished for desertion.

Professional military history interpreter from the largest 18thC living museum in the world.

105 degrees is about average for a VA summer. You still wore your wool coat if you had it, and you got used to it. You didn't wear it all the time (such as at camp or during fatigue duty), but for traveling or combat, you want it. Wool is hard wearing, abrasion resistant, and doesn't catch fire. Furthermore, the composition of the uniform being linen and lighter wool makes it breath fairly well.

I would actually prefer the red coat. VA State Garrison blue is a giant heat-sink.

Total change of subject, and might not be your area of expertise, but I thought I would try to ask a pocket expert if I could.

Do you think Howe was actively pursuing a strategy of avoiding fruitless battles and trying to starve the rebellion of money, or was he just a lazy fuck who was spending too much time partying in Philadelphia?
>>
>>1872680
I assume you refer to William Howe? I would say that he was more tired and practical. He was no stranger to war, having seen all levels of command and hardship in his career before the stirrings of revolution even began.

30 years of sieges and slaughter will change how you conduct your business, and he was facing the same problem in the Rev War that we're dealing with in the middle east: You cannot always clearly define the enemy from civilians, and eventually you just stop caring.

Also, fuck the Bostonians. They made shit harder for everyone.

Confirmed legit historian.

I can only think of three units who did, and everyone else wore madder red. Even the Indian Sepoys that were stationed here in Williamsburg wore read coats.

Oh by the way, for those who don't know, the Brits didnt fuck around with us, and brought soldiers from every part of the empire. Scot-irish, Indians, Ethiopians, Native Americans, Loyalist colonials...

>>1874080
Oh you sweet innocent thing. Im from Louisiana originally, and we regularly get 110 with 100% humidity. Where you from?

>>1874083
They constantly escalated the violence and forced an already delicate political situation into open war. People don't realize that the US had basically been ignoring every tax for decades and the Crown allowed it because we were making so much money.

>>1874084
Actually, you really did. Oldgrowth forests (for making ships and charcoal), tobacco, corn, copper, cotton...
