I always hate serfs complaining about feudalism when they'd starve to death without it.
>>
this triggers me
argh
there was no neat magical fairy land feudal pyramid at work anywhere in europe in the middle ages
god damn
you had dukes more powerful than kings less powerful than counts less powerful than wealthy businessmen less powerful than church officials more powerful than dukes etc. ad nauseam
no, the king didn't magically grant all the land everywhere to his dukes who gave it to their counts who gave it to their esquires or whatever
huge tracts of land (kek) were held in allod, by the church, by "foreign" nationals, by nobility without any fealty to anyone above
rrrrrrrreeeeeeeee
>>
>>1870412
Don't forget the part about it being the most "natural" way of doing things
>>
>>1870435
Not really, but it always boils down to the amount of oppression being delivered from the top down. A spoiled kid who hasn't developed wisdom, really shouldn't have the inherit right to be king.
>>
feudalism > barbarism

You get a chaste christian waifu, protection from bandits and a plot of land to support you when you are not in your lord's fields which is most of the year. This is better than being Chief Chad's fuqqboi.
>>
>>1870475
That "spoiled kid", his lineage and his authority, were all granted by God, which makes it the most natural method of organization. This is how things have always been, and how things always will be.

You're going to get your head chopped off if you keep this shit up.
>>
>>1870493
Eh' I don't know why you would bring God into this. Chronicles has a plethora of examples of terrible Kings and how God didn't favor any of them, and how they all met quick demises due to their inept behavior as leaders. As for that excuse being exploited against the peasants, sure, I get it, the hierarchy use God as a tool to exploit the believers of God. That's a form of exploitation for oppression and proof that certain types shouldn't be permitted to lead just because of who they were born to/born of.

So to go off on a slight tangent, it comes down to the philosophies that are in place, the tactical blueprint of ruling that's in place for certain types to remain in power. Butttttt, in actuality, the truth will indeed set the people free. To know truth is to know the deception etc etc
>>
>>1870412
You're a retarded bitch.

Feudalism wasn't a "system" invented not out of nowhere. It was the natural end result of post Roman anarchy. Warlords killed other warlords until they could get their neighbors to submit to them. They then got the local peasants to pay them with food and goods to protect their lands. The warlords solidified their legitimacy by allying with the Church. They pledged allegiance to more powerful warlords and fought amongst themselves for ever more land and peasants to tax. The Black Death eventually fucked everything up and the modern state came out of that fuckery
>>
>implying the master/slave ruler/subject dynamic will ever go away
>implying there isn't a large class of people who create rules for their vassals that they themselves don't have to obey

There is no alternative, freedom is in name only as long as there is any formal government, because it will always be infiltrated by the ambitious
>>
>>1870645
If you're going to make an irrelevant post that completely misses the point of the thing you're replying to, you should at least not start it with a "You're a retarded bitch". It makes you look like a retarded high school student who is euphoric because of their own intelligence.
>>
>>1870691
Except he totally got the critique of capitalism. Both capitalism and feudalism are necessary for their times and won't change until necessary.

Your a moron

The only reason the feudal system survived was because the Byzantine empire kept the muslis from sweeping through the balkans and into europe.

Feudalism was a primitive survival system that made europe the nigger of the world.
>>
>It's another 'feudalism is a neat little pyramid' thread
>>
What your little chart these doesn't show is the complex series of interlocking obligations that go up, down, and sideways. The freeman at the bottom might owe fealty to the minor noble above him, but not to the greater nobility *his* lord swore fealty to. There were also different kinds of fealty -- money and military service being the most common. Sometimes two great nobles would get into a dickfight with each other and you'd fight for one while sending armed men to fight for the other side, or money, or both.

And if you didn't maintain those beneath you and protect them and do them justice, you were a felon, and guilty of felonie. That's Old French, and we still use it to describe our most serious category of crime.

>>1870762
The way your generation is being taught to hate, despise, and disregard everybody and everything from your grandparents back is seriously alarming. You guys are shaping up to be a bigger bunch of cultivated, cultured fucking barbarians than our medieval ancestors were.

Speaking of feudalism as if it were something static and uniform is terribly ignorant. What we call feudalism contained within several possibilities, since the feudal order was also achieved by negotiation and consensus, not only on brute force and certainly never on abstract ideology, and some of them weren't particularly bad for peasants.

When the Spanish tried to abolish feudal rights in the Basque Country, or when the French tried the same in the Vendee, peasants revolted, because they didn't had that bad.

Being born in high status family, be given education, training and first hand experience of ruling over people. Your upbringing instill in you the notion that you have duty from god to take care of your serfs and submit to your superiors.

That system worked pretty well. What is being negatively affecting our notions for it is :

1. religion wars and the strife the brought
2. change of economic system with the advance of urbanization and colonialism
The feudal system by itself is quite stable and rigid.

Ah, yes, the roman system. The system that allowed a backwater city of tribal hicks to expand to control of italy, north africa, greece, and hispania.

How atrocious.

>So excellent that by the time of the jugurthine wars they had to switch to a state equipped army. that was loyal to it's generals.
Yes, this is what happens when yoou expand your borders to the point where men are afield for ten years at a time.

Nonoe of this supports your retarded idea that smallholders somehow cannot act effectively for common defense, like say... every free city in europe in the middle ages, which there were plenty of.

No it wasn't. Feudalism was an evolution of Germanic tribalism with influxed Latin law (which included religion). If the Huns or sandniggers had beaten out the Germans in the late-Roman land-grab we would have something completely different.

OP was just showing that believing in a system that will never go away is naive.
>>
>>1877467
because the church fucking hated poor people.

Those priests, monks, and nuns? Largely from noble families, you had to pay their way in.
>>
>>1877467
Peasants in holy orders were still peasants, just with different markets. And lots did join the church, but being a peasant wasn't too bad.

The neat pyramids like this are usually taught with the caveat that this represented the rough pattern rather than the complex and messy reality.
Is there a better way to frame the relationships in a diagram? Your complaint is like complaining about how most Americans don't follow FDA food pyramids either.
