When they started getting equal rights and mainstream respect, but then instead of continuing to persevere with dignity through hostility they started playing the victim card.

Every other race has "come to America" and been discriminated against. They just kept their dignity and worked hard and accepted that shit wasn't fair. Modern black culture is in a self-defeating victim mindset. black folks had suffered from jim crow, racist housing and labor policies, separate schooling systems, unfair justice system practices and much more. during and after the vietnam war a bunch of heroin was trafficked through shitty neighborhoods and other ghettoes where a majority of blacks were living. a lot of those individuals were pulled into drug addiction because of how shitty the circumstances for them were, and things snowballed even harder for them there with incarceration rates going up every year.

The golden age of black american families is largely a myth- middle class black neighborhoods DID exist but very very few of those families owed their homes (black people couldn't get mortgages. this is a bigger deal than some people realize.) Most were bought "on contract" meaning a single late payment and you're out.
Landlord keeps the house and gets to start the process over with another family so that over time they make WAY more money this way than selling once. Evictions were so common it's not accurate to think of them as permanent settlements, they were more like a "Challenger Tier" for blacks- bust your ass to get in then stay as long as you can, but it's not meant to be permanent. The population churn was huge.

Now we have the crack epidemic (or the drug war- lefty or rightwing approved terms for the same idea) to blame for the whole thing so no one has to confront the idea that the destruction of the black family was the straightforward result of official policy.
