This battle was the turning point in history after which "the Ottoman Turks ceased to be a menace to the Christian world". The Ottoman army consisted of about 300,000 men with elite Janissary and Sipahi units, while the defending forces consisted of 50,000-60,000 Germans, 24,000 in Viennese garrison and 15,000-20,000 Poles.
The Ottomans intended to take Vienna before the Polish relief forces, led by the king John III Sobieski himself (later called the Savior of Christendom by the Pope and "Lion of Lechistan" by the Ottoman belligerents themselves), arrived. The Ottomans attacked early at 4 a.m. The Polish infantry arrived in the afternoon and the hussars came into action at around 4 p.m. when the infantrymen cheered their arrival from the forest. You mean like the Hungarian protestants from Transylvania who called the Ottomans for help against the Habsburgs in the first place? Or the French who had an alliance with them for 300 years? Or the English who had amiable relations with them? Or the Swedes who allied with them 20 years later? Or the protestants from the Netherlands who made medallions inscribed with "better Sultan than the Pope" during 30 years war?
The idea of Europe being a Christian, anti-Muslim monolith is a modern reinvention. Maybe it had some merit in the Crusades era, but certainly not in 1600s.
