Why was El Greco's style so shit? How did he get away with

I just think Greco's style was awful. The colours are often incredibly dull and sickening, almost cheap looking pigments.

He clearly lacked skill. Yes, he can be appreciated as a VERY early "modernist". But for his time (The high renaissance) he was severely lacking in talent and ability.

If he had painted them in the 1920s perhaps I would have some sort of appreciation.

But being that he wanted commissions it just seemed like he was trying to do something he didnt have the skill or insight to do.
Look at the women in my OP pic, he can't even make proper skin tones.
His style was really just lazy.
