If they have successfully implemented their reforms, could they have lasted longer?

I doubt it, Han nationalism was too strong. Also, the queue hairstyle and Manchu """clothing""" were an abomination that deserved to be eradicated.

Eventually the Han Chinese would overpower them in a revolution.

The best scenario would be they restored the Ming monarchy, slowly modernize, and finally become a constitutional monarchy.

This, even if the removal of the queue was the only thing to result from the 1911 revolution it all would have been worth it. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the anti-Chinese prejudice in America during the 19th century resulted from that stupid, disgusting hairstyle. The ridiculous outfits didn't help, either.

That 'reform' is even a question in the first place is a leading indicator that the prevailing ideology of the times has likely degenerated and demotised to the point that it is fundamentally incapable of providing adaptive answers to the deep-historical forces at work in the 'crisis'.

Such is the trap civilizations so often fall into. Defeated not by war, but by peace.

This is not how the Chinese monarchy works.

The Mandate of Heaven is won. You don't get it by being related to some former imperial family or was a scion of some dynasty, you got it by ruling China. During the Decline of the Qing, that was exactly what Chinese generals were maneuvering for until the 1911 nationalist revolution caught them all in the blindside and the wave of nationalism led to the Empire abolished.

That said, the Chinese respected your family for being erstwhile Emperors. There is a tradition in China, an unwritten rule, that the successful claimant that replaces a declining dynasty enfeoff the family with a ceremonial title, and give them enough funds to live comfortably and maintain their ancestral tombs. Logic being to further the continuation of the idea of Zhongguo- the Realm- in addition to honoring each and every family who held the mandate out of some statewide notion of filial piety.

With the exceptions of the Qin Emperors (hated) and the Yuan (hated, did not fully integrate) and the Qing (empire abolished), each and every Chinese ex-Imperial dynasty were made into nobility with an honorary title. For example, the head of the Zhu family that built the Ming dynasty became the "Marquis of Extended Grace." under the Qing Dynasty. It was these ex-imperial families that supplied wives to current reigning dynasties. When the Han Dynasty fell, Cao Pi, first Emperor of Cao Wei, made the last Han emperor and his heirs, Duke of Shanyang.

That said, if you were a known son of a previous dynasty, shit DOES NOT work in your favor if you want to be Emperor. Because it means that your family had your time in the sun. The Mandate of Heaven was withdrawn from you guys, you're done. But sometimes, new dynasties were related from previous ones, but we're talking degrees of separation/ancestor & descendant relations.

The Republic of China DID grant Emperor Pu-Yi an honorary title: his fucking own.
>The Articles of Favourable Treatment of the Great Qing Emperor after his Abdication
"After the abdication of the Great Qing Emperor, his title of dignity is to be retained by the Republic of China with the courtesies which it is customary to accord to foreign monarchs.
After the abdication of the Great Qing Emperor, he will receive from the Republic of China an annual subsidy of 4,000,000 silver taels. After the reform of the currency this amount will be altered to $4,000,000 (max.).
After the abdication of the Great Qing Emperor, he may, as a temporary measure, continue to reside in the Palace (in the Forbidden City), but afterwards he will remove himself to the Summer Palace. He may retain his bodyguard.
After the abdication of the Great Qing Emperor, the temples and mausoleums of the imperial family with their appropriate sacrificial rites shall be maintained in perpetuity. The Republic of China will be responsible for the provision of military guards for their adequate protection.
As the Chong Mausoleum (崇陵) of the late Emperor Dezong (the Guangxu Emperor) has not yet been completed, the work will be carried out according to the proper regulations (relating to imperial tombs). The last ceremonies of sepulture will also be observed in accordance with the ancient rites. The actual expenses will all be borne by the Republic of China.
The services of all the persons of various grades hitherto employed in the Palace may be retained; but in future no eunuchs are to be added to the staff.
After the abdication of the Great Qing Emperor, his private property will be safeguarded and protected by the Republic of China.
The imperial guard corps as constituted at the time of the abdication will be placed under the military control of the War Office of the Republic of China. It will be maintained at its original strength and will receive the same emoluments as heretofore."
